NEW INFO: CHANGE TO REMITTANCE PAYMENTS
United REMC consumers may notice a very small change to the look of their November monthly statement.
For a number of years, your mailed-in payment was actually addressed to United REMC Payment Center in Columbia City. Beginning this month we will again be handling our remittance work right here in our offices, and the address on your payment stub will reflect that.
If you typically paid by mail, your payment was actually processed by Northeastern REMC, a neighboring co-op, and all the needed information was then forwarded to our office.
It is not uncommon for companies to make use of a processing center rather than doing the work in-house. Because of economies of scale, sometimes that’s the best way to handle payments by mail, and so it has been for United for some time.
Now, thanks to newer and less expensive technology, we will again process payments that are sent in the mail right here in our office.
You may or may not have even noticed that your payment stub previously carried the Columbic City address. And if you did and wondered why, it was because we out-sourced that work to Northeastern which had offered the remittance processing service to us years back. We now can do that work in-house and save money by doing so, which is a benefit to all our members.
