DEPOSITS
United REMC typically requires a deposit on residential services. However, that can be waived in lieu of a favorable credit rating from one or more sources, depending on if you’re a new or existing customer.
United REMC determines the credit risk of a new customer primarily by a consumer reporting agency (CRA), such as Equifax, TransUnion, or Experian. The amount of the deposit will be determined based on the findings from the CRA. A low-risk rating will result in no deposit, a moderate risk requires a $175 deposit, and a high risk requires a deposit of $250.
Deposits may be required for existing customers if they receive two (2) disconnect notices for two (2) consecutive months; a customers receives disconnect notices for any three (3) months within the preceding 12 months; or electric service has been disconnected for non-payment. The deposit may amount to one-sixth the annual billings, and that amount is subject to adjustment based on actual billed changes to the customer.
United REMC is not required to provide electric service to an applicant who owes the cooperative for outstanding bills for service to a prior account under the applicant’s name.
United REMC may provide service once the applicant pays the outstanding bill in full.
The deposit is credited back to the consumer’s account if they have paid 10 out of 12 months with no late payment. The deposit must be paid before service can be provided.
