Partnering with our communitiesUnited REMC sponsors a number of programs available to consumers and their families.
 

Annual Youth Tour

Sponsored each summer by United REMC and our statewide association, a high school senior-to-be can earn an all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C.  The Tour draws over 70 Indiana students who in turn will join some 1,500 students from other states.  Applications are typically taken in February.


Youth Power & Hope Awards

Sponsored by Indiana Statewide, the contest recognizes students in grades 5-8 who are involved in helping their communities.  For entry guidelines and information, go to electricconsumer.org.


Youth Scholarship Contest

Three scholarships are awarded to high school students whose parents or guardians are members of United REMC.  It is open to freshmen through senior students, and applications are judged on an essay along with school/community involvement and academics. The contest is held each spring, and information is posted on the website as well as provided to guidance offices at high schools in our service territory.


Student Art Contest

Sponsored by Indiana Statewide Association of RECs, the contest accepts artwork from students K-12, and a winner is picked from each grade level for each month, beginning with kindergarten in January.  The calendars are available at United’s office free of charge. Contest entries are taken in early spring.  Watch the Electric Consumer for details, or go to www.indremcs.org.

Safety DemoSchool Safety Demonstrations

At the request of teachers, United REMC will put on a safety demonstration on electrical safety along with information about the co-op and its responsibilities.


4-H

United REMC has supported 4-H throughout its service territory for many years.  The co-op annually provides judges for the 4-H Electric projects at several county fairs. And the co-op typically purchases 4-H animals at several fairs each year in the livestock auctions.


Other Affliliations:

United REMC and its employees are active in various communities throughout its service territory. United is a member of several chambers of commerce, including Fort Wayne, Wells County, Huntington, Warren, and Roanoke. The company likewise supports and belongs to several business and economic development organizations. Among them are: Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership; Huntington County United Economic Development; Markle Businessmen’s Association; Warren Area Chamber of Commerce; Roanoke Economic Development Organization; Lime City (Huntington) Economic Development; and the Ossian Development Corporation.

In addition, United annually supports many civic organizations. And its employees can be found volunteering their time to a host of clubs and organizations. Among those are United Way, Kiwanis, Lions, American Legion and VFW, Red Cross, 4-H, and many more. Directors, officers and employees are involved in township advisory boards, volunteer fire departments, various athletic leagues, and community and fraternal organizations.
