At United REMC, Safety is our PRIORITY.
Our primary service is providing electricity to our consumers. Electricity must be respected and knowlege is key.
All employees are trained to do their jobs with employee and public safety in mindalways. Safety is communicated to school children and adults alike with various programs and publications.
Employees observe power lines for hazards daily. Lines along private right-of-way are inspected annually as well. We trim trees near power lines to prevent branches from falling on power lines causing not only outages, but the risk of fallen power lines creating a dangerous situation.
Safety information is presented in the Electric Consumer, our monthly publication mailed to consumers.

Call Before You DIG!
1-800-382-5544
Avoid a dangerous and costly situation.
If you’re doing any digging near where a power line may be buried, call FIRST. Many times consumers don’t know where a line may be buried. The best practice is to call and have it located to remove all doubt.

United offers field trips to school kids fifth grade and older, teaching them basics about electricity and how to handle certain situations. The trips include a video, safety demonstration, a tour of our equipment yard, a pole climbing and equipment safety presentation by linemen, and a free lunch. In addition we offer safety talks for younger students upon request at schools throughout our service territory.
United likewise has people on staff ready to answer questions on proper electrical hookups for service. Our line crews must undergo over 8,000 hours of basic training to become journeymen linemen. And safety meetings are held monthly and are open to all employees.
Various publications all free for the asking are available dealing with specific topics. They include, but are not limited to: Farm safety, establishing a family disaster plan, safe living in manufactured housing, emergency preparedness, surge protection, electrical safety around the home, and more.
