Water Heaters
United REMC has recently modified its Water Heater Program as convenience to consumers.
As a way to control costs, United utilizes a load management program through its wholesale power supplier – Wabash Valley Power Association. Using radio-controlled switches, water heaters can be shut off for brief periods during times of peak demands – usually very hot or very cold weather. To take advantage of United’s program, a water heater must have a load management switch, which are installed by a United service technician at no cost. Water heaters are controlled on a rotating basis throughout our service territory. In almost all cases, there is virtually no affect on your hot water supply.
Under the program, United offers:
Free 50-gallon water heater for any new home construction, or the changing from a gas water heater to electric.
A 50-gallon heater at a cost of $275 plus tax on any change-out of an old electric water heater.
All water heater costs are cash-and-carry. United does not install nor deliver units.
Again, consumers must have or allow a load management switch to be installed to be eligible for the program, which also includes free water heater maintenance.
